Gilbert Wong Project Manager

Gilbert Wong Project Manager

As a project manager of Microsoft Dynamics NAV/AX multi-site roll-out projects, I work both in Hong Kong and Japan. Most people believed that multi-sites roll-out focused only on corporate requirements and legal requirements on each site. In reality, headquarters are often facing larger than expected resistance from local subsidiaries due to the reasons such as insufficient information about the project structure, missing business processes due to the various business practices at each country, lacking of leadership from HQ, lacking of project scope per site which leads to exceed of budget and underestimating the effort of data migration. Being a project manager for multi-sites ERP system roll-out, the foremost tasks are picking up the corporate policy and requirements. Secondly, you have to develop project plan (project chapter) per site. I enjoy working as an IT consultant in the international environment at PBC.

Working as a project manager of Dynamics NAV/AX implementation. Started as a project manager of Dynamics NAV, I took part in several implementation projects, such as implementing the system to HQ of the relatively large companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Currently I am in charge of Dynamics AX implementation projects. Although both NAV and AX are Microsoft Dynamics products, they are developed under the different concepts. With full awareness of this background, we endeavor to review the requirements so that we can provide more appropriate proposals for our customers.

Being engaged in the global missions at PBC is challenging and worthwhile for me, for there are big differences in the commercial practice between India and Japan. I found that system requirements definition in Japanese is world class and this is what I often hit against the wall and have a hard time. Currently I study Japanese to support Japanese enterprises to remain active in the world.

Also, I try to win the trust of customers with full use of both product knowledge and physical capacity as a salesman. I enjoy working with my colleagues who are positive, international and have high communication skills .

My main customers are foreign affiliated firms in Japan. In most cases, their headquarters have already implemented Dynamics NAV overseas. Therefore, sometimes I join the telephone conferences and presentations to the customer’s headquarters with our bilingual consultants. I believe not only the global adaptability of Dynamics NAV, but also our own localized package which corresponds with Japanese commercial practice satisfies our customers. It is a hard work but it is challenging to take advantage of English ability.
